This homestay program in New Zealand is to help the motivated student to use and develop English skills studied in a practical, real life environment while attending daily classes conducted in English, while communicating with their host family, and while participating in out of class activities.
The homestay program is conducted over three weeks at Waiariki Institute of Technology during February and March. After a class placement test, they will be assigned to a suitable class where all the content will be handled in English only. The classes are integrated skills based, so the students will be expected to show improvement in not only speaking, but also writing, listening and reading. It is expected that the students will develop both their competence and confidence in English, and, on return to Japan, will have broadened their educational perspective, become more aware of the global need for English, and be prepared to participate in lifelong learning of English.
This is the schedule that is determined by Toi-Ohomai Institute of Technology in conjunction with the English Department of this university. The students will be expected to participate in excursions, to converse with their host families, and to actively seek opportunities to expand their English skills.
