【授業の目的】

授業の位置付:DP2 一般知識、DP3 思考力 DP5 会話・文章力 DP6 意欲
Students will learn how to improve their academic writing skills. Activities will include prewriting such as brainstorming and mind mapping, peer reviewing and journal writing. Students will produce at least FOUR reports that will be typed and formatted. All writing, speaking and teacher instruction will be in ENGLISH ONLY.

By taking this course students will:
increase their confidence and motivation to write in English
improve their writing fluency and word processing skills
improve their ability to create short reports
learn ways to organize their writing clearly and effectively

授業形態: 演習
授業方法: 能動型(アクティブラーニング)
1)Exploring student experiences of writing; explaining different styles of writing; outline the writing process; discuss how to use MS Word; explain journal writing.
2) Journal reading and commenting; pre-writing skills.
3) Journal reading and commenting; explaining mind map and discussion of first draft of first assignment.
4) Journal reading and commenting; topic sentences and communicating ideas; hand in corrected version of peer-read first descriptive assignment.
5) Journal reading and commenting; supporting sentences and supporting detail.
6) Journal reading and commenting; first draft of descriptive assignment 2; submission of final version of assignment 1; give journal to teacher.
7)Putting it all together: topic sentence and supporting sentences and concluding sentence; submit second draft of assignment 2
8) Journal reading and commenting; different forms of paragraphs: Comparison and contrast, Process, Narrative, Cause and effect, and Problem and solution; final version of assignment 2.
9) Journal reading and commenting; Comparison and contrast assignment pre-writing.
10) Journal reading and commenting; Peer review assignment 3.
11) Journal reading and commenting; Cause and effect assignment pre-writing; submit journal to teacher.
12) Cause and effect assignment pre-writing and peer review. Final version of assignment 3.
13) Journal reading and commenting; submission of Cause and effect assignment second draft.
14) Journal reading and commenting; Problem and solution assignment prewriting.
15) Journal reading and commenting; submission of final draft of assignment 4.

Students are expected to prepare thoroughly for written work by prewriting including brainstorming and freewriting. This will take 2 hours each week. After peer reviewing and comments from the teacher, students are expected to rewrite and review their work. Students will submit drafts. Reviwing will take 2 hours each week. Students are expected to do this.

【成績評価方法・注意】

績評価方法: 試験なし
Students are expected to come on time with their journal and dictionary, and be prepared to fully participate in the written activities. Classes are graded according to attendance (40%), journals (20%), and written assignments(40%). Students MUST buy a notebook for their journal, a folder for their handouts, and have access to a computer AND a printer.
